Benmore Forestry School CertificateThe image is courtesy of Dave Stewart, Dufftown, from a collection belonging to his father George Stewart.
George attended Benmore Forester Training School at near Dunoon from 1943-1945 and the image features his certificate and results from his final exam. Note that the terminology School for Forest Apprentices was used from the very early days possibly up until the mid 1950s.Graduates often came out and took on roles as ex School Forest Gangers or Under Foresters and served a further few years before getting their gold crowns!
The certificate, signed by R L Robinson (FC Chairman) and Harry Watson (Senior Instructor at Benmore) indicates that George achieved 67 per cent in his final exam.
