Fire Warning Horn

The image is courtesy of Tom Dunn, Huntly who had a small collection of old forestry and timber tools.

Lovely old fire horn based on the hunting horn model carried on a sling around the shoulders of the local forester probably when the main transport was the trusty push bike.

One can imagine the scene of the forester pedalling furiously past the forest worker houses with the shrill call of the horn warning the workers of a forest fire and the need to immediately get out and assemble at the fire shed for instructions.

The words ‘Forestry Commission’ and initials ‘HM’ are stamped on a small plaque on the horn.

See PDF for more views of horn.
