Start of the recovery day — Glentress

The photographs are courtesy of Stuart Mitchell, Peebles area, who formerly worked at Glentress Forest.

Jim Hewitson on board his Volvo BM clambunk skidder on an early frosty morning start with the aim to begin recovery of the bogged machine. Alongside is the skidding tractor with engine cover up and jump leads lying on the wheel indicating that perhaps the Clambunk skidder needs an additional battery power start.

From this view can anyone identify the origin or maker of the tractor skidder combination? Its registration number is OYK49R indicating made around 1976/77.

In the frosty scene behind are the open fields of Shieldgreen.

The machine is a Falstone Skidder produced to Forestry Commission design by JHB Implements of Ickburgh, Norfolk.
The fleet number was FC 73172 and was purchased in January 1977.

Does anyone know how many Falstone skidders were produced for the FC. Were they sold to private owners as well or just FC?
I can certainly remember working with a few at Dalbeattie back in the early 80s.
