Pond Construction Glentress Forest

The photographs are courtesy of Stuart Mitchell, Peebles area, who formerly worked at Glentress Forest.

Thought to have been made about 1973/74 but details on the image are limited. The concrete box structure appears to be an overflow system in the process of being constructed with its take away pipe partially encased in concrete running to the left. The dam would likely be built over the concreted portion of the pipe and run across the shallow depression from the point with the cane and red flag nearer to camera.

The MAN excavator seems to be digging away the top spoil and brash from around the proposed water level to give a firm non eroding edge but could also be building an mound in the middle to form and island when filled with water.

Other views of completed pond in later years shown on this website No ????
