Strathnairn Forest – Farr Section
Maps are courtesy of Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District and show the forest areas originally known as Strathnairn Forest and later managed as part of Culloden Forest. See large pic.
The compartment numbers run approximately from 1 through to 50 but it is very difficult to follow the sequence. The planting years are also quite mixed up but do start at 1947 and work their way through to 1960 with later and uphill additions in 1964/66. In the first compartments from 1-6 the planting years progress in three steps from 1947/48 to 1957/58 and then 1966. The latter planting year is most likely to have been later uphill planting but less certain about the1957/58 area and this could havebeen replanted following a fire. Can anyone confirm?
Species range is fairly large with Scots and Lodgepole pine fairly extensive but Sitka and Norway spruce along with larch species are in fair proportions and there is even some Douglas fir.
