Vapourer Moth Larvae and eggs (Orgyia antique)

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and many are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
The spectacularly marked larvae hatch out simultaneously from eggs around the old papal cocoon and can be quite a sight. They are more usually found on broadleaved trees and tree damage is usually not too serious.
