Fowler Tractor and Cuthbertson ‘F’ type ploughForestry Commission copyright images of Forest Research photographs courtesy of Glenn Brearley, Roslin. Nil Ref No
No reference details given other than ‘Taken by Mr Skinner Dec 1947.’ A small additional note ‘Type F plus anchor’.
There is little in background detail to suggest a location but the standing man has some mechanical objective in view as he is ready with a spanner. The rear sign indicates a Fowler Tractor but model not shown but could be FT3? Can anyone confirm?
The writing on the side of the homemade cab appears to read:
James A Cuthbertson
Drainage Engineers
Biggar
The large sheet of metal lashed to the plough frame would appear to be the ground anchor mentioned and most likely would have to be dug into the peat to give the required resistance. In view just appearing out of the top of the large plough draining head can be seen the handle of a draining rutter which would do the job. Obviously a self contained draining unit with plenty of spare rope and well used to working alone on the hills.Could this be a trial 'Forestry plough head' as opposed to the draining head?
Can anyone name either man?
