Dragging Timber with Horses - Inverinan Forest

Photograph taken by Don MacCaskill and image courtesy of Bridget MacCaskill, Strathyre. Don was based as Head Forester at Inverinan from about 1960 through to about 1968 before transferring initially to Allean Forest and then Strathyre Forest in1972.

Duncan MacDougall, Inverinan, who worked at Inverinan Forest from 1948 to 1998 says ‘This photograph was taken on forest road about 300 metres above council road photo.(Picture No2020)

I was not sure about man in the foreground, but asked a lady in Dalavich and she is sure his name is Peter Morrison. Her family worked with horses and she said that it is Peter Morrison also on the front cover of the Touchwood History forestry booklet called "Smell of the rosin – noise of the saw" probably taken about the same site.’

The photograph on the front of Smell of Rosin (Picture No 988) I am certain is of my uncle Donald MacArthur. He also had the forestry farm at Blarbuie, Lochgilphead which subsequently was taken over by another forestry man Dermaid MacGregor from Sallachry.
My father is the man holding the white horse by the lochside on page 12 of the same publication. His name was Bob McMillan and had the croft at Upper Braevallich previously the home of Jimmy and Charlie Mitchell. He worked in Eridine forest from 1957 to 1969 having previously worked in Kilmicheal Glassary forest.
