Robin McCall working on fire trace

Photographs courtesy of William Fleming, Polmont with help from his brother Alan.

William spent two years on a Forestry Commission apprentice scheme in Strathyre Forest living in the hostel with about 16 other young lads including Robin McCall.

Below Robin's bent knee can just be seen the three prongs of a drain drag which will most likely have been used to roughen up the surface of the ground and remove any dead vegetation that would allow a fire to burn through.
